Luke plays for a traveling select baseball team out of North Houston called the Marucci Elite North Houston. He has played with this organization for 4 seasons but this was our first official trip to a World Series. In 2020, his team (called the Kings at that point) won the Nations World Series in Houston but this was in our backyard so this truly was a first for us. We had been planning this since the announcement of our tournament in January. Some friends and family helped support Luke by buying raffle tickets but most of the cost of this trip was on us.
After we dropped off Oxford at Mrs. Stephanie's Farm, we loaded the car and we were on the road before 1PM so we could avoid as much traffic as possible.
The Lake Charles and Lafayette traffic were practically non-existent but we were not so lucky with the Baton Rouge 5PM traffic. We were backed up about 3-4 miles west of the bridge, beyond Port Allen. This made for a 45+ minute wait to even GET to the bridge. We finally made it into East Baton Rouge Parish around 5:50PM. I did not think about it too much but during that traffic I did notice the temperature gauge on the car to be reading above 210* and it was "dancing" between 210-245* the whole time we sat in that traffic.
After we got checked in and unloaded we headed towards the LSU campus. This is a tradition of ours as this is Chris's alma mater and we all just love this gorgeous campus. We parked near the Parade Grounds and then walked all over campus. Touring the School of Music, Band Hall and the Mike the Tiger Exhibit. Mike was especially active and up walking while we were there which was nice and so very unusual. We even saw him pass gas and spray a guy (wearing an Arkansas shirt) near the end of his exhibit, which was highly entertaining to say the least!
We were able to tour the inside of the LSU Band Hall as well as the School of Music while on campus. This was really special for Natalie as her current plan is to go to college on a French Horn scholarship and become a professional horn player or Band Director.
And get to tour the School of Music.
She told me afterwards "Hey Mommy, that may be my future home".
And hey... It could be worse. She could be talking about Alabama or Texas!
After we toured these areas we went back to the Parade Grounds and played ball for nearly an hour before the rain decided to join the party and we were forced to get into the car.
Luke prepping for his World Series pitching debut... We hoped!
We decided to get dinner at Po-Boy Express in Baton Rouge as we all really wanted a Cajun fix while in town. TIP- This was a hole-in-the-wall type of place but the food and the service were exceptional. The boys got a "large" po-boy which was eventually 4 small po-boys! Let's just say none of us left hungry!
I was already FAILING on the picture taking skills!
These po-boys were great and very reasonably priced!
After dinner we made the customary trip to the College Drive Walmart to get all of our LSU apparel and souvenir needs. There's $150 I will never see again... Haha! The kids will wear their new gear with pride on college days at school and I love that so it was worth it! We got back to the hotel shortly after 10pm and got ready for the other 6 hours to Panama City Beach.
It was a great start to our trip and we were ready to see those emerald waters of the Florida panhandle.
UP NEXT... DAY 1 and the start of our very... interesting trip!
Thanks for following along! We appreciate your support!
God is good... ALL THE TIME!
