The City of Angels- Los Angeles 2024

The City of Angels
Los Angeles, California
Spring Break 2024

We LOVED Los Angeles!

As we continue to make our Baseball Chasers Bucket List a reality, we are getting to travel to one of the most visited cities in the United States... Los Angeles! This was the first time Chris and the kids had been to Los Angeles but I have been to LA in 2002 with the Pride of Oklahoma when we performed at the 2002 Rose Bowl.  This was a TRIP of a LIFETIME and we enjoyed EVERY MINUTE!

We have highlighted our daily activities and travels through LA as well as our both Dodger Stadium and Angels Stadium of Anaheim! These blog posts have tips, tricks and pictures to help you plan your own vacation to Los Angeles. Once again, we appreciate your continued support of our blog by clicking on the daily posts. We wouldn't be as popular or successful if it weren't for you all. Thank you so much!

What an EPIC trip it has been... But we're not done yet!

Morning
We didn't set an alarm in hopes we would get real rest but set a back up alarm for 8:30AM knowing Luke would be awake before then and sure enough, all four of us were awake before 8AM. We got ready and then enjoyed the delicious Embassy Suites breakfast in the main lobby. This breakfast was even better than most Embassy Suites. We loved the made to order omelets and the hot fresh pancakes. After breakfast, we loaded the SUV and then headed south towards Beverly Hills and Hollywood for our final tour of the trip.

One last look of Angels Stadium of Anaheim from our hotel!
She's a beauty!

The traffic was not bad as we traveled 38 miles and it took us right at an hour. We went straight to Beverly Hills and drove down Rodeo Drive and tried to see all the sights of this area of Los Angeles. We didn't have time to get out and see it all but just driving down Rodeo Drive and then Hollywood Blvd. was pretty awesome. We made our way to the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel on Hollywood Blvd around 11:30AM for our 12(noon) tour time with Film Freak Tours. TIP- I found this tour on Groupon for $28/ person and then got a discount. It was a 2 hour tour of Hollywood and surrounding areas with a guided tour guide who knew all the spots and even showed scenes of the movie before you got to the stop. The tour showed us lots of movie scene locations and TV sets as well as other tourist areas. The tour guide was an old TV show star and "E TV" type of host. The tour was practically all about HIS interactions with these movies sets or scenes. It was kind of odd and he was a bit arrogant. This might have been cool if this was my uncle or I knew the guy but I had no idea whom he was and it was not the best tour. With the discount we paid $90 total and left a tip but it was not worth $40 in my opinion. It was a 2+ hour tour and had about 40 minutes worth of real material. The kids never complained and we got a tour of Hollywood so I guess it checked the box.

Hello Beverly Hills! This park was gorgeous! I really wish we would have had time to get out and explore!

Southern California at her finest!

We have arrived at Rodeo Drive!

Paramount Pictures on our Film Freak Tours!

The Chinese Theater on Hollywood Blvd was PACKED!

The Roosevelt Hotel- The starting point of our tour!

It's Tour Time!

We are ready to see it all! Let's go!

Afternoon
Our flight home was at 6:55PM and that meant we had to be LAX at 3:55PM at the latest. TIP- LAX is known for having terribly long security lines and even for a domestic flight 3 hours is recommended. That means that Chris Davis thinks we need 4 hours. Our tour got done at 2:05PM and we grabbed a pretzel on Hollywood Blvd and got our parking validated (for FREE PARKING) and then hurried out of the area. We had some traffic but made it to the LAX rental car return by 3:15PM. Unfortunately, we forgot to refill the car with gas... That was an $80 mistake but it was too late. We got all our stuff, turned in the keys and got on the shuttle to the Southwest Terminal in LAX. We got into the security line around 3:45PM and were through the line by 3:48PM. No CAP... At LAX! We were shocked!

Evening
We then made our way inside the terminal and got some food at Panda Express. This was another $95 lunch tab... We are officially broke now (JK)! We then made our way towards our gate to wait for our 6:55PM flight. The flight got delayed by about 15 minutes but by 7:12 we were on board and ready to get back to God's Country. This flight was full except 8 seats so we knew it was going to be a tight flight. We opted to have the kids and I sit in an entire row and then Chris on the opposite row. This turned out to be the WORST flight ever. It is almost as if we had a sign that said "Please bring your babies to our area". We had 7... literally SEVEN babies within 2-3 rows of us. They were crying and screaming pretty much the whole flight. Then a screaming toddler who kept throwing stuff at their parents and the parent did nothing. Another couple played their iPad for their baby without headphones and as loud as possible.  About 2 hours into our 4 hour flight, the couple in front of us decided to change their baby's poopy diaper right there in the row. It was awful and then they didn't get up to throw it away. I ended up pushing the button to tell the stewardess. Then the baby just cried and cried. It was so bad and reminded me why I literally hate FLYING!

We touched down at Hobby Airport at 12:07AM and it seemed like the longest 4 hours of my life! This can drive a person to drinking or crazy or something! Hobby airport was PACKED at midnight on a Saturday and every single Luggage turnstile was loaded. We had to wait nearly 45 minutes for our luggage. Finally, around 12:50AM, we got our luggage and made our way to the shuttle to Parking Spot #2. We were in our car by 1:10AM and back at our house in The Woodlands around 2AM. We were all SO TIRED. We practically dumped all the luggage, took quick showers and were asleep by 2:20AM.

This was an INCREDIBLE trip and I am so grateful that after 20 years, I was finally able to check off Dodger Stadium and Angels Stadium of Anaheim off my Baseball Chaser Bucket List. We all really enjoyed Los Angeles and this trip! But we will be back to California... Oakland is in my sights! I really hope I can grab the Colosseum before the Athletics leave Oakland at the end of the 2024 season.

Once again, we GREATLY appreciate your continued support of our blog. Even just clicking on the blog post links and sharing our posts with friends and family members who may be cruising helps our business! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

Up Next... Royal Caribbean to the Bahamas!
We are SO EXCITED to finally get BACK TO CoCo Cay!

The City of Angels- Day 4

Los Angeles Day 4
Hollywood and Stadium Views
Friday, April 5, 2024

And then there was ONE!

Morning
We all woke up rested and feeling somewhat refreshed around 7AM. We got ready and packed up the Air BNB to make our way to Anaheim for the Angels Game. We opted to make our own breakfast in the Air BNB to help save money. We then made our way to the trailhead for our first stop of the day... A private tour of the Hollywood Sign.

This was a private tour of the Hollywood Sign with a hike through the "Hollywood Hills" and mountains of Southern California. The tour took us 2.5 miles round trip on a hike the very bottom of the Hollywood Sign view breathtaking views of the Southern California mountains and even better views of Los Angeles. Our tour guide helped us locate all kinds of things in Los Angeles and gave excellent tips for the remainder of our trip. The pictures we were able to take were iconic and we loved every minute of this tour! TIP- We reserved this tour through our Go City Pass reservation and it was nothing short of incredible.

Our first view of the Hollywood sign from the trailhead!

And a view of downtown Los Angeles from the top of the hike!

A view of Universal Studios area.

I really enjoyed this view.

Just a few short feet away.

This was a great tour and WELL WORTH the money!

I love this one!

And this one makes me laugh bc the kids are jumping SKY high and the fat old people are barely off the ground!

This one was only slightly better!

Thank you CHRIS for taking me to Los Angeles!

This is a PICTURE PERFECT shot!

Love you Chris Davis!

Be still my heart... They are growing up too fast!
We loved LOS ANGELES!
Love- love- LOVE!

Our tour guide got this EPIC shot of Natalie "jumping over" the Hollywood sign!
Priceless picture!
We had WAY too much fun with this!

After our tour concluded we went straight to the Hollywood Walk of Fame to get a glance at our favorite "stars" and enjoy this tourist attraction. We were able to walk about 5-6 blocks finding all kinds of famous people and their stars. We did some shopping and grabbed a pretzel before making our way back to our Air BNB just 2 miles away to load up the SUV and head south to Anaheim.

We parked at the Hollywood and Vine parking garage and LOVED this entrance to the shopping area!

This souvenir store had EVERY item for $5! It was great- It is north of the Doby Theater by 2 blocks!

My Top Gun loving boy found Tom Cruises star!

Of course... I am the original Top Gun loving one!

And I found my FAVORITE- Courtney Cox!
I AM Monica... More and more everyday!

And Natalie searched HIGH AND LOW to find Adam Sandler!

And nearby was Jennifer Anniston!

Afternoon
We knew we wanted to beat any type of LA traffic since it was a Friday and on the back half of "some" Los Angeles area schools Spring Break. It was about a 50 minute drive typically and the GPS said it would be 75 minutes so it was fairly heavy traffic. We stopped at an In-N-Out Burger about 15 miles north of Anaheim for our lunch for the day!

When in Rome- Or Southern California... This is a MUST!
I swear it just taste better when in California!

These silly kids were having SO MUCH FUN!

Once in Anaheim we made our way to the Embassy Suites Anaheim Orange for our "Stadium View" room. WOW... This was one of the most amazing hotel rooms I have ever been able to stay in. We were on Floor 9 (of 10) and had a "Stadium View" of Angels Stadium of Anaheim from our room. The balcony offered view like no other with the stadium AND snowcapped mountains in view. The view was so perfect, we almost didn't want to leave. TIP- This room was $325/ night which was STEEP but we saved so much with the Air BNB, we decided to splurge and I would say it was WELL WORTH it. It allowed us to not have to drive to the stadium and pay the $45 for parking either which is a savings as well.

This was an un-zoomed in view of Angels Stadium from our balcony!
PRICELESS!

Another view of the stadium!

We unpacked while the kids watched a movie and then we took a very brief nap while the kids played on their devices. Then we got ready and walked to the Golden Road Brewery across from the Stadium. TIP- I found this on the "Ballpark Chasers" Facebook group. This is a FB page geared towards people like me who are trying to "chase" all 30 MLB baseball stadiums. This brewery was PACKED at 3:15PM since it was the Angels Home Opener. We had to walk around for nearly 20 minutes to find a seat but we got a table and started the party a little early since we did not have to drive back to our hotel. The food at the Golden Road Brewery was very good but the on tap beers were INCREDIBLE. I had another Joey moment, "I would walk back to California for one of those".

This place had over 50 local made and specialty beer flavors on tap!

Cheers to Stadium #29!

Evening
We closed out our tab after the kids at THREE Pretzels and made our way across the street to the Angels Stadium of Anaheim for Stadium #29. It's hard to believe I am SO CLOSE to getting all 30. We arrived about 10 minutes after they opened the gates at 4:30PM and it was VERY crowded. I believe that was due to it being the Home Opener for the Angels. We got scanned in with our tickets before trying to explore as much of the park as possible before the opening ceremonies. We were able to see the outfield area and the famous Anaheim fountains and so much more. It was a nice little ballpark but will not make it's way to the Top Ten by any means. The "insides" were decently crowded and not anything special. The food options were good but not great.

After all these years... I am finally here!

It felt so good and I loved EVERY MINUTE!

Stadium #29!

And I love that I got to do all of this with my kiddos!
This is Stadium #21 for them!

Best feeling EVER!

These fountains are a CLASSIC picture at Angels Stadium of Anaheim!

Once the game began, we made our way to our "nose bleed seats" in far right field. The Opening Day ceremonies were really neat as the Angels honored several past players and other important people. Once the game began, the crowd got wild and we witnessed many fights in the Center Field area.

These pictures were taken by a group member in the Ballpark Chasers FB page with his drone! It is so cool to think we were THERE!

I love this picture! Great view of Angels Stadium!

Once the bottom of the 1st inning concluded, we decided to go and find Cathy's Cookies to stand in the long line for the FAMOUS COOKIES (another find from the Ballpark Chasers page). I am so glad we went in the 1st inning when there was barely a line. We got the 3 dozen WARM and gooey cookies for $29 and at first it felt wrong to pay that much but once we tasted these little gems and enjoyed the ambiance of the game and chocolate chip cookies from our seats, it was all worth it! In 29 stadiums, I have never experienced such a unique food offering! TIP- Get in line early as we learned they sold out by mid-5th inning!

There are two locations in Angels Stadium.
One on the main concourse and one in the upper deck!

This was ooey-gooey perfection! Even at $29... it was WORTH IT!

The game itself was boring and completely one-sided as Boston Red Sox led 5-1 since the bottom of the 1st inning. Then in the 6th inning we witnessed a GRAND SLAM by the Angels and an addition 2 home runs to have the Angels lead the game at the 7th inning stretch. We went down to get our souvenirs after the 7th Inning Stretch but we didn't find any foam fingers for Natalie which is a bummer as that is what she collects at each stadium (eBay to the rescue).

These fans were ROWDY and throwing beach balls onto the field!

I am so grateful to be able to spend these trips with the people I love the most!

Stadium #29- CHECK!

We left the stadium at the bottom of the 8th inning as the Angels were losing. We wanted to get back to our hotel room in case the Angels had "Friday Fireworks" and we could watch from our Balcony. Since they lost, there was no such thing!

The famous MICKEY MOUSE- It all started in Anaheim!
Fellow chasers know what I mean!

As we were walking back to the hotel, we saw this sign!
I LOVE the message!

We stopped at the Bar in the Hotel Lobby and enjoyed watching highlights of the game before going back upstairs to find the kids "hungry". As much as I really didn't want to... We Door-Dashed Del Taco around 11PM. You Only Live Once and especially on vacation! We finally got to bed around midnight!

$27 well spent... It was actually fairly decent at 11:30PM!

It was a GREAT day and I really enjoyed our hotel and Angels Stadium of Anaheim. It feels surreal that I only need ONE more stadium to complete my chase!
When will I get Oakland Colosseum???

UP Next- Day 5 and our travel back to "God's Country".
Stay Tuned!
