Kellie's 40th Birthday at Sea
Galveston, TX
Morning
It was my last day to be in my 30s and I was so ready to celebrate the BIG 4-0 on board the Carnival Breeze. We were up and out the door by 7:30AM. But of course, we HAD to make a pit-stop at our usual cruise breakfast at Kolache Factory.
The drive to Galveston was very easy despite the construction near Texas City and the social media hype of long delays. We were in Galveston and parking by 9:20AM, even with a stop at Bucc-ee's in Texas City.
We parked at Port of Galveston parking lot A and were able to take the shuttle to terminal #2 to board the Carnival Breeze. TIP- We usually park at EZ Cruise Parking, which is closer to the terminal but I was late in booking. BUT this lot worked out PERFECTLY! We were in line by 9:33AM and were inside the Galveston Terminal #2 before 10AM. The check-in process was a breeze and "Verifly" helped with the smoothness of this check in. TIP- Beginning September 1, 2022, passengers no longer needed a negative Covid test if they are fully vaccinated so this embarkation was MUCH more stress-free than our Vista embarkation from 7 weeks prior.

The first announcement to board the ship was made around 10:30AM and we heard the "First Ding" of our cruise at 10:50AM. Once we were on board we made our way to our Muster Station in the Main Dining Room and then made our way to Guy's Burgers on the Lido deck. We fully expected it to be PACKED with people but there was NOBODY in line. It was the easiest and best embarkation Guy's experience I have ever had in all of our Carnival embarkation days. The burger was delicious and was a perfect way to start our cruise.
Sure enough, at 1:20PM, all of our bags had arrived and I was able to unpack it all before we left Galveston. I unpacked and then we took a short nap. We were SO TIRED. This had been the most difficult start to a school year in MANY years (even the online Covid start in 2020) and we were feeling the exhaustion even in early September. I cannot even imagine how we will feel as the year progresses.
Around 3PM they came on the announcements and began calling out those people who had not checked in to their Muster Station. They called out quite a few names and we were so glad we did our muster drill EARLY. TIP- Just do your Muster Drill immediately after you get on board... Even if it looks like a lot of people! Just do it! Trust me! It started to pour down rain but our COVE BALCONY kept us "high and dry" which was SO NICE. The Carnival Breeze set sail for Costa Maya, Mexico at 4:14PM.
Despite the pouring down rain, we were able to watch the sail away from our Cove Balcony. TIP- The Carnival Cove Balcony is EASILY our favorite cabin ever and it seriously pays for itself on days like this with lots of rain or weather. We enjoyed the balcony for a while and then got ready for dinner.
This was a really good cabin and had very minimal noise issues!
After our cocktails we made our way to the back of Deck 5 for our dinner reservations at the Carnival 555 Steakhouse. This meal was SUPERB and cooked to absolute perfection. Plus, since we had the reservation for the 1st night of the cruise, we were able to have a FREE bottle of "House Wine" with our meal! Our only complaint was this steakhouse only allowed 1 appetizer and 1 salad per person instead of the multiple options that the Vista, Dream and other Carnival cruise ships allowed. I am not sure if this is a NEW thing or a Breeze thing. The service and the food were PHENOMENAL and we would still pay for this dinner experience again and will never miss on a cruise. It is easily the best meal of any cruise. In fact, the chef made a special BIRTHDAY dessert just for me per my request! Thank you Carnival!
After dinner we went back to our room to try and catch the very tail end of the sunset but we missed it. We were so full from the meal, we decided to lay down for a bit. About TWO HOURS later we woke up and realized we missed the "Welcome Aboard Show" and other entertainment in the Theater.
We made our way to the Comedy Club for a late night adult comedy show. It was so dirty but really funny! A little risque' but not so bad we felt we needed to leave. In fact, this comedian was good at not being woke and making fun of everyone!
After the comedy show we ventured into the Piano Bar for Orlando at the piano. This guy was SO TALENTED! We enjoyed his life piano music every night of the cruise. Midnight came and went and I was officially a FOURTY YEAR OLD! I felt so old already... I was still tired, even after a 2 hour nap! Is this the norm for 40?
The correct cruise # on this shirt!
(We accidentally miscounted for our Vista- July 2022 cruise)
20 for 40... LET'S GO!
It was a GREAT way to spend my last day in my THIRTIES and I was ready for a FULL DAY of 40th Birthday fun!
Up next... My 40th Birthday spent at SEA!
