Sisters in San Francisco- Day 3

 Bucket List Complete
September 2, 2024
Oakland, CA

I cannot believe I was actually able to do this!

Morning
We had a more casual morning in the hotel and were able to eat some of the remainder of our Bob's Donuts. We then went to the Muni Bus stop just outside our hotel and rode the bus 14 stops to Baker Beach on the far southwest side of San Francisco proper. TIP- I found this attraction in 2021 and it did not disappoint so I wanted to share this with Allison.

Once off the bus, we still had to walk about 1/2 mile to get to the actual beach but it was not a terrible walk, albeit there were a few surprises along the way.

We are ready for the day!

Once at Baker Beach, the fog and sun provided the most glorious view of the Golden Gate Bridge. It was not at all crowded on Memorial Day Monday and we had the beach all to ourselves as we walked up and down the beach just admiring the view of the Golden Gate Bridge. TIP- Be careful how far down you walk, there is a "clothing optional" area of this beach; although both visits, we never saw anyone not wearing clothes.

We have arrived at Baker Beach!

And this was our first view... EPIC!

The fog just made the whole ordeal SO COOL!

I love San Francisco!

Sisters in San Francisco!

The waters at this beach are FREEZING but so gorgeous!

THANK YOU ALLIE!!! Best Sister Trip EVER!

Seems as if it is in a movie or a postcard!

I LOVE this beach and highly recommend!

After taking in the gorgeous views at Baker Beach, we made our way by bus to the Painted Ladies in central San Francisco. The Painted Ladies are a set of old townhomes that are similar to the  townhome used in the 1980s sitcom Full House. In fact, this row of townhomes is featured in the opening credits of Full House. Once at the Painted Ladies we got some great pictures of these homes and of downtown San Francisco and was even able to get some coffee from a local food truck.

Hello from the Painted Ladies!

Coffee, sunshine and the Painted Ladies- it's perfect!

Sisters in San Francisco

After the Painted Ladies we were ahead of "schedule" (I am Danny Tanner, remember) so we decided to get an Uber to take us to the actual Full House townhome about 1 mile away. This was SO COOL and we were not the only one who wanted to see this up close and person. In fact, the sign on the gate made it seem this is a daily occurrence for the 80s sitcom fans! I really enjoyed this pit stop.

The REAL Full House townhome!

This was SO COOL!

Hello- I grew up in the late 80s/ early 90s!

One of the most unique stops of the trip!

Now we were starting to get hungry to we took the Muni Bus back to Fisherman's Warf and found Nick's Lighthouse Seafood right on the Warf. I had read about this place and wanted to try their fresh clam chowder in a bread bowl... It was SO GOOD and it really hit the spot.

This makes my mouth water just looking at it... It was incredible!

On the EAST Fisherman's Warf area near Boudin Bakery!

Afternoon
After lunch we walked around the east end of Fisherman's Warf and down towards Pier 39. We did some shopping at a few local boutiques as well as some vendors on the street before arriving at Pier 39. TIP- Pier 39 is a large area of shops, stores and restaurants but more widely known for the massive amount of sealions that live on the actual pier throughout the year. The last time I visited San Francisco is was mid-summer and there were only a handful of sealions. This time, there were dozens, maybe hundreds and it was SO COOL!

Alcatraz Island from Pier 39!

LOVE THIS

The Ferris Wheel is new since 2021- I saw it on Groupon for cheap!

Our first view of the Sea Lions!

This was a really cool experience for both of us as there were WAY MORE sea lions than either of us saw the previous trips!

One last look at Pier 39!

Now it was time for the day's main event- The Oakland Coliseum. We made our way to the subway that would take us under the bay over to Oakland. TIP- Do all your transportation research ahead of time and purchase the "Clipper Card" to pay for all your fares prior to your trip arrival as it is good for 30 days. I actually did read this and planned on it but never did and this was a mistake. We ended up missing one of the trains that would take us to Oakland but we still managed to get to the Coliseum prior to the gates opening.

Once we stepped foot out of the subway train and on the bridge that would take us to the Coliseum, I just started crying. It is really happening- after all this time! I leisurely took my time getting to the gate to get inside and we even met some fellow chasers.

I have arrived... Let the party commence!

This is how I picture the Coliseum as a kid watching baseball in the den with my dad!

It was SO COOL to meet fellow chasers.
Mr. Johnson, I wish you well in your completion!

Once inside, it was CRAZY busy! In fact, we were both SHOCKED at how many people were actually at this game. It was the next-to-last homestand in the Oakland Coliseum EVER and it was PACKED! We meandered all around the lower deck getting some snacks and drinks and had full intensions to go to our upper level seats for the game (Even with this being #30, I wasn't going to pay $100+ for a ticket in the lower section IN OAKLAND. All chasers know that of all the stadiums, this is one you can move lower in.) This paid off big time as I went to get my commemorative certificate highlighting my attendance and a manager, James, overheard me talking to a work and offered to upgrade our seats to the 3rd base lower section on row 15.

Even with the terrible owner and the team moving, they did really well with keeping the stadium fairly clean and picture worthy!

BEST SISTER EVER!

This is my moment...

and I will live up every second!

The certificate I received on the lower deck where we then met James!

More pictures with my sign!

The "Philly Dog" I ordered via the app in the 7th inning!

James completely turned this already awesome day into a memories I will now share with my grandkids. Allison and I were able to sit in these seats the ENTIRE game and enjoyed seeing the whole ordeal from seats that would normally cost $100-150. Thank you JAMES!

James- we will NEVER forget you!

The game was pretty exciting to see as the Athletics themselves are TERRRIBLE, the Oakland fans are just straight up pissed about the move and we were amongst MANY Seattle Mariners fans! It was the most fun game I have been to in a WHILE. During the 6th inning, I was able to look on the screen and see a PERSONAL message from my parents and sister congratulating me on the completion of my chase. THIS WAS THE COOLEST THING EVER!

Evening
After the game we made our way out of the stadium and over the bridge back to the BART where one of Allison's friends from college would meet us and take us out to dinner in a nicer area of Oakland. This was so cool to see the very trashy and dirty side of Oakland immediately followed by a MUCH NICER area.

Once done with dinner, Allie's friend dropped us off at the 12th Oakland BART station where we would take the subway back into San Francisco to get to our hotel. The BART station in Oakland was not bad... The subway station it dropped us off at in San Francisco ( Powell Street Station), OH LORD! It was a full of CRAZIES and all kinds of riff-raff! We ended up calling an Uber as neither of us felt safe. This was the one and only time we felt this way but it was BAD!

Once we got dropped off at the hotel we relaxed in the hotel lobby bar and then called it a night around 11PM as we knew the next day was going to be LONG!

UP NEXT... Driving the Pacific Coast Highway 1!

God is Good... ALL THE TIME!

Sisters in San Francisco- Day 2

From West to East- Baseball and Chinatown
September 1, 2024
San Francisco, CA

Just one more stadium left...

Morning

We woke up to the most gorgeous sunrise coming in through our 18th floor window. The view of San Francisco and the actual bay was incredible. We got ready and then made our way out of our hotel hoping to catch a Cable Car or a Muni bus to take us towards Fisherman's Warf. I really thought I studied the public transportation well but there is a learning curve to everything and we missed several Cable Cars before finally just walking UPHILL to get to Lombard Street. (BTW- These types of moments really remind me I am out of shape! These San Francisco hills were NO JOKE!)

The only thing better would be to wake up to the ocean waters on a cruise!

San Francisco is such a gorgeous city!

I am ready for a GREAT day in San Francisco!

Hello Muni Stop and Cable Car... Where are you?
We waited about 15 minutes but nothing passed by!

We finally made it to Lombard Street with a few pit stops at a local Coffee Shop and a store to get water. Lombard Street is the curviest street in the world and is so cool to actually see live. TIP- This is a FREE attraction and really enjoyable if you have time! The pictures are PRICELESS!  Neither of us had been here before in our previous trips so this was really special. We took a few pictures and then got on a Muni Bus towards Fisherman's Warf.

I am SO GRATEFUL to Allison for coming on this trip with me!
BEST SISTER EVER!

We walked Lombard Street and it was so cool!

The view from the top of Lombard Street was priceless!

Another view of the bay from Lombard Street.

We are ready for our journey through Lombard Street!

Once at Fisherman's Warf we walked around the far west side of this tourist area towards Umbrella Alley. This is a nice little area of murals and great for picture taking. When Chris and I came to San Francisco in Summer 2021 (From the Baltic to the Bay), this tourist spot was FREE; however, it has since started charging a $4/ person fee. We gave our money via Instagram and were able to get some great pictures and have a casual morning before getting brunch.

Hello Fisherman's Warf!

This view at the foot of Ghirardelli Square is one of my favorite places to just hang out and people watch!

Ghirardelli Square in Fisherman's Warf!

Another picture perfect shot of the Golden Gate Bridge!

Umbrella Alley near Ghirardelli Square!

Greetings from San Francisco!

These type of pictures are worth the $4 entry fee!

I truly feel I have left my heart in San Francisco.
In 2021, this was my "recovery" trip just 3 weeks after my terrible bout with Covid that left me 5 days in the hospital. And now in 2024, this is the finish line to my epic MLB Stadium journey. San Francisco will now ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart! Thank you SFO!

So grateful for Allie!

Allison is a HUGE brunch fan so we did some research and found EightAM diner near Fisherman's Warf and had a GREAT brunch. We had to wait about 25 minutes but it was well worth it. The food was outstanding, albeit pricey but everything is in San Francisco.

This was a PERFECT spot for BRUNCH!

The EightAM menu!

My Belgian Waffle was SUPERB and easily the best I have ever had!

I am loving this day and this city!

Brunch with Allison is always the BEST!

Afternoon
Once we finished our brunch at EightAM, we decided to try the AI car service- Waymo. This is similar to Uber or a taxi but it DOES NOT HAVE A DRIVER. It took a couple of tries to get the robot car to pull in to where we needed to get into the car, but once inside the ride was phenomenal. The car literally drove us right to Oracle Park. It changed lanes perfectly, avoided buses and traffic and so much more. It cost less than Uber and honestly, probably safer in the end.

This may be the last picture we ever take...

Nope... This is! And it was PERFECT!

This was SO COOL! Don't be scared... Try it!

We survived our Waymo ride and got to Oracle Park just in time for the gates to open. We made our way inside and walked all around the lower deck. Oracle Park is easily one of my TOP FIVE MLB Stadiums I have ever visited and I was so excited to be here again!

I love this ballpark so much! It is a MUST see when in the Bay Area!

I cannot believe it but just ONE MORE TO GO!

I love the bay views from all over this stadium!

We got here early and I am so grateful and I love walking around this stadium!

We chose seats in the upper deck to get a view of the bay from our seats and they were just perfect. TIP- There's not really a BAD seat in Oracle but these 300 level seats behind home plate are nothing short of spectacular.

It gives me chills... Every time!

This right here... BEST VIEW in all of baseball!

Love this!

New favorite...

Good ol' favorite!

God Bless America!

"at the old ballgame"

Once again, so grateful for Allie!

We enjoyed the game and even met a fellow "Chaser" and his son and we talked baseball stadiums for a good portion of the game. We enjoyed some delicious pizza and a few cocktails before the game was over.

Evening
Once the game was over we walked a few blocks away from the stadium to catch a Muni bus to Chinatown for the evening. In her many travels all over the US, Allison had never been to a Chinatown so I knew I had to take her to the "Best Chinatown outside of China".

Hello Chinatown... Allison is here!

I loved getting to experience this all over with Allie- a Chinatown newbie!

We strolled up and down the busy streets and did some shopping before making our way to Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Company, the home of the original fortune cookie. TIP- This place is a MUST SEE, so naturally is ALWAYS busy but it is SO COOL! We had to wait about 40 minutes to get to the inside, but they pass out free samples while you wait.

This is a MUST SEE when in San Francisco!

After our fortunes were read and we got some cookies, we made our way back to another viral tourist trap, "Good Mang Kok" Bakery- voted San Francisco's BEST BAKERY for the last decade. Even at closing time, there was a good selection and it was well worth another 20 minute wait. The "pillow pockets" were AMAZING!

We had both read about this in many travel planning sites... They were not kidding, this place was AMAZING!

And Allison got her some Chinese dumplings!

Now it was time for dinner and I had to take Allison to the best Chinese food I have EVER HAD- House of Nanking. Somehow, we arrived when there was NOT a line so we got right in but expect at least a 20 minute wait. The food here is literally the best I have ever had but the "Fried Rice" is a show in an of itself. The egg is cracked right at your table and it is served on a hot plate. I am so glad I was able to take Allison here and we both LOVED IT!

DO NOT MISS THIS... Best Chinese food I have EVER had!

These "Pork Buns" were SO GOOD!

This was the famous "Mongu Shrimp" and it was delicious!

This is a show and a meal! It is seriously incredible!

Seriously one of my favorite restaurants I have ever been to!

After dinner I took her to another local favorite, Li Po Lounge for a "Chinese Mai Tai". These are similar to a traditional Mai Tai cocktail but with added heavy cream. They are SO GOOD and very strong. We had a few and then knew we needed to take a stroll. We ended up getting on a Muni Bus to find a Cable Car station and at 7PM, we finally got our first Cable Car ride. We rode the Cable Car to end's ending at Ghirardelli Square and were able to catch the sunset behind the Golden Gate Bridge, which was just awe inspiring. God paints the most gorgeous pictures!

This is a MUST DO in Chinatown!

Goodnight Chinatown- It's been real!

Finally- Time for a Cable Car ride!

Wow... I was literally speechless!

Loving every minute!

Just minutes later... So pretty!

We ended the evening strolling along the streets of Fisherman's Warf before calling an Uber to take us back to the hotel for the evening! TIP- We hadn't seen any issues but wanted to take an Uber instead of the Muni Bus at night and we didn't mind splitting the fare to get us home safely. The Uber cost from Fisherman's Warf to Nob Hill on a weekend was only $23.

This was a really special day as it was Allison's first time to a Chinatown and both of us got to visit a favorite stadium of ours.

LOVE getting to do all of this with Allie!

Up Next... #30 is finally happening!
I complete my chase TOMORROW!

God is Good... ALL THE TIME!
