Breezing Through Summer- FOOD

Davis Table and Davis Feast
Carnival Breeze 2017

We are true foodies and love trying new things while on a cruise ship as well as enjoy our favorites. The Carnival Breeze offered the FunShip 2.0 upgrades including Guy's Burger Joint and Blue Iguana Cantina but it also had Mongolian Wok and the brand new Guy's Pig and Anchor BBQ on the Lanai deck. This made for an amazing dining experience throughout the cruise. In addition, the Breeze had the American Table and American Feast menus in the Main Dining Room. We also splurged and tried the 555 Fahrenheit  Steakhouse on this cruise! We enjoyed every meal and the Carnival Breeze is one of our favorite Carnival ships for dining! In fact, there was almost TOO much to choose from!

I am going to highlight all of the Lido deck offerings individually as well as each night's menu from the MDR. We tried to eat at as many venues as possible but even with a 7 night sailing, it is difficult to get to it all!

Lido Deck and Various Lunch Offerings

Guy's Pig and Anchor Smokehouse BBQ- Deck 5 Lanai Starboard
This is a new addition to the Breeze since May 2017. It offers 4 types of BBQ meats and all the sides a BBQ lover could ask for. It is only available on sea days from 12(noon) to 2:30PM. The line WILL be long but it moves fairly fast! Tip- Be sure bring your own drink or bottle water because there is not a beverage station close by.

The Menu!

The food workers were HARD and HOT at work!

The mac n cheese on the Breeze was the best I've ever had!

Taste Bar and Lighter Fare- Deck 5 Ocean Plaza
This is open only on sea days from 12PM to 2:30PM and offers salads (made to order and tossed in front of you) as well as soup and even wraps and sandwiches. It is a great way to watch what you're eating on a cruise ship!
There is a food worker behind the bar tossing your salad as you request!

A light lunch is perfect for HOT sea days!

Bonsai Sushi- Deck 5 promenade aft
This is an a la carte eating venue that is open nightly from 5PM- midnight and sea days from 12 (noon) to 2:30PM. We fully intended to eat here as a late night snack and never found the time but we did order the California roll from room service and it was superb!
The menu!

Room service California roll... We WILL be ordering it again! Wow, so good!

Guy's Burgers and Fries- Deck 10 Lido mid-ship
This NEVER disappoints and is EASILY the best burger at sea! Supposedly this particular venue offered a "Texas" burger (since sailing from Galveston) but the workers never seemed to know what I was talking about! Still an amazing lunch! This is open everyday from 12 (noon) to 6PM, although I really wish it would stay open later as a burger would be a perfect late night snack!

This is what I love about Guy's... everyone can create THEIR own burger however they choose!

Guy's Burger and Fries menu

This crew was very stingy on the fries the whole trip!

Blue Iguana Cantina- Deck 10 Lido mid-ship
This is available DAILY for breakfast until 10:30AM and lunch from 12PM to 2:30PM. Chris and I LOVE the breakfast burritos and I enjoy the lunch burritos and taco salads. Tip- The line moves quickly so don't be frightened by the long line!

The menu

We loved the Salsa bar because again, everyone can make it their own!

My daily breakfast!

Marketplace Buffet- Deck 10 Lido mid-ship
This is the main buffet and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with various hours during sea days and port days. As usual, we did not eat here very much but we LOVED the set-up and décor of this buffet. Tip- There is AMPLE seating between the front and back buffets on each side of the ship! Also, the back buffet is ALWAYS less crowded than the front!

The décor of this buffet is our all time favorite for a cruise ship and seemed very upscale.

Tip- This is the seating on the sides of the buffet. The large booths are PUB height! I loved the décor of this as well!

Mongolian Wok- Deck 10 Lido mid-ship
This is Chris's favorite place to eat on the ship and offers made to order Asian food. It is open from 12PM to 2:30PM daily. Tip- Eat here on the 1st day as it is usually unknown by most passengers. As the week progresses the line will get longer and longer!
By the end of the week Chris had his perfect recipe!

Cucina del Capitano- Deck 11 Panorama aft
This is a FREE pasta bar during lunch hours (12PM to 2:30PM). It is upstairs and feels like a private restaurant. You can create made to order pasta dishes and they offer Caesar salad and the absolute BEST bread offered on the ship! My family LOVED it and ate there several times. For dinner hours it is $15/ per person and offers family style dining! Tip- You can order 1/2 orders if you are like me and want to "try it all" on the ship but don't have stomach space!

The best bread on the ship!

SeaDogs- Deck 12 SportsSquare mid-ship
This is INSIDE SportsSquare and only open on SeaDays from 11AM to 1PM. Tip- However, it was only open 1 of the 3 sea days during our voyage so if this appeals to you, be sure to eat there when you see it open because it may not be open later!

If the umbrella is up... it is OPEN!

There is only 1 CCL worker so it is slow but worth it!

They offer all- beef, chicken and apple, polish and pork hot dogs as well as ALL of the fixin's! The all-beef was one of the best hot dogs we have ever had!

Pizza Pirate- Deck 10 Lido aft
This is Carnival's downfall in the food category. The pizza service is TERRIBLY slow and the pizza itself is NOT good. I was hoping the Breeze would get Pizza del Capitano during the May 2017 drydock as it is slightly better than Pizza Pirate. On this trip we only ate here 1 time and we waited 30 minutes for 2 slices. It is open 24 hours!

Seriously, don't waste your time!

Tandoor- Deck 10 Lido aft (starboard)
We planned on eating here on this trip but never got around to it! If you like Indian food it is great! It is only open from 12PM to 2PM daily!

Main Dining Room- Sapphire Dining Room- Deck 3 forward
Tip- We had Your Time Dining and could eat anytime from 5:45 to 9:30PM. If you have set dining times you will be eating in the Blush Dining Room (deck 4 aft) OR Sapphire Dining Room deck 4 forward.

Chris and I cruise frequently and enjoy "rating" each menu item from 1-5 with 2.5 being what you would expect from a restaurant on land. We consider a 4.0 to be about standard for most cruise food! I realize that food is VERY subjective but we enjoy reviewing these menu items to help us remember what we do like for future voyages.

RATING SYSTEM
1- awful and would be fast-food level quality (McDonald's or Taco Bell)
2- decent on land offering
2.5- par for land meals (Chili's and Red Lobster)
3- Upscale land restaurant quality
4.0- standard for cruise industry food
5.0- One of the best foods (of the corresponding category) we have ever had
