Liberty The Royal Treatment- Cozumel

Hello Mr. Carlos
Cozumel, Mexico
Friday, June 22, 2018

Another PERFECT day in the Caribbean.

Usually I LOVE Fridays, but on a cruise that means only TWO days left!

Morning
Today was our solid beach day and we wanted to make the most of it so we set alarms and woke up early. We looked out the balcony and noticed the NCL Getaway and another smaller ship, who we later figured out was the MSC Armonia, we docked at the downtown Punta Langosta pier. Royal Caribbean parks at the International terminal and Carnival docks at the Puerta Maya pier.

We got ready and then made our way to the Windjammer for our usual made-to-order omelet breakfast. The buffet was just as busy at 7AM as it was the previous days at 8AM and 9AM. We noticed the Oasis of the Seas was pulling up beside us in Cozumel. This ship was MASSIVE. We have seen her or some of her sister ships in the past but NEVER this close up. We were astonished. The balconies were HUGE and the ship itself made our 155,000 Gross ton ship look like a dwarf. We wanted to take a shore excursion on THAT SHIP. I mean seriously... Royal Caribbean, hear me out! Sell excursion tickets to your biggest and best ships, Oasis or Quantum class, for a 2-3 hour tour. I would pay GOOD money for that!

A suite on the side of the Oasis. It has its OWN hot tub!
 Hello $$$!

This ship was GIGANTIC! I will get on her... and hopefully SOON!

We got off the ship with ease and beat most of the other passengers to the taxi stand. We had hoped to go to Nachi Cocum but decided to not pre-book before the cruise since there was storm in the Gulf at the time and the radar looked like it would be in port on Friday, when we were there. Most of the all-inclusives offer pre-booking have you pay the entire amount ($50-70/ per person) ahead of time, with little to no refunds. Well that was a mistake because once we arrived Nachi Cocom as well as many others were already completely booked. There were over 20K passengers in port on this day and it was CROWDED. Our taxi driver, Mr. Carlos, took us to a great little private beach club called Ocean VIP. He was a very honorable driver who waited until we were completely checked in before leaving. Thank you Mr. Carlos.

Making our way to the taxi stand and pier area.

Even with the Gigantic OASIS beside us, the Liberty of the Seas is still a GORGEOUS ship! I cannot explain how much we loved her!

I've heard a lot of people say they have overpaid for Cozumel taxi. These are listed at EVERY taxi stand in Cozumel. Be sure to take a picture with your phone so you can call our your driver. Our fare was $15 to the Ocean VIP club but since our Mr. Carlos took us to Nachi first we tipped him $5 and gave him a $20 total.

OCEAN VIP BEACH CLUB
TIP- OCEAN VIP... This was an all-inclusive club that while small and not as built up as others such as Nachi Cocom or Mr. Sanchos, it still only allowed 100 people in per day. The cost was $65 per person and includes covered lounge chairs, open bar and all you can eat Mexican food. The food was REALLY good, simple and filling, and the drinks were perfectly mixed. The club offered a variety of activities like parasailing, jet skis, kayaks and so much more. They also had a variety of local venders and shops. These vendors DID come by and offer us items to purchase but we told them "no thank you" and they never came back.

The Ocean VIP menu and activities info!
While this wasn't our 1st choice and I had never heard of it, we had a GREAT day and happy with this beach!

A view from our spot... We chose a second row of chairs for more shade.
You CAN sit about 4 feet from the water if you so choose.

The "natural umbrella" we were able to get. It was gorgeous!

Afternoon
We spent the majority of the day in and out of the ocean, enjoying the peace and quiet of the beach and enjoying delicious drinks and food. Our waiter, who was also named Carlos, kept the drinks and food coming and did an incredible job. Chris was able to get a lot of workout time in swimming back and fourth in the ocean which was great for him. We did learn that the storm we thought would be there on this day came 36 hours prior and left lots of seaweed along the beach. The workers of this club and the neighboring clubs were all working to pick up this nasty seaweed. The beach itself was a little rocky so I got a life vest to float out on to avoid the rocks.  We made a few purchases and enjoyed ourselves all day. We even found Mr. Carlos in the ocean later in the day.

I LOVE a good beach day and this day did not disappoint.

We ordered quesadillas but the menu offered all kinds of unique Mexican cuisine.

Chris enjoying some R&R.

I got this full face snorkel mask on Amazon for $38 and it was AWESOME. The best snorkeling experience I have had! I am going to order the kids and Chris one as well! (Check out the link below)

We decided around 2:30PM it was time to wrap it all up and make our way back to the ship. It was a 10-15 minute taxi ride and we needed to be back on board by 4:30PM. The taxi driver was a little rude and since we were the last passengers on his shift he did not take us all the way to the drop off location and instead dropped us off in the street. I had never had anything like this happen to me. We made a few more purchases and made our way to the long line to get back through the pier.

Another crazy cab ride back to the pier! I swear afternoon cab rides are ALWAYS crazy!

It may be hard to see in this pic but poor Chris's ankle was really suffering. He was having to walk on the SIDE of his foot. This really aggravated me that the driver did this to us. Needless to say, he did not get the generous tip like Mr. Carlos in the AM.

In line with the other 8K Royal passengers getting back on the ship!

We love you Liberty of the Seas!

We got back on the ship around 3:30PM and went to our room to take a shower and a nap before sailaway. Once again, the Liberty of the Seas left Cozumel on time and with all of it's passengers so there were no pier runners. We watched the sailaway from our balcony and enjoyed a cool breeze while watching the Oasis and Getaway leave Cozumel as well.

Evening
After setting sail we decided we needed another nap so we moved our dinner reservation to a later time and caught some ZZZs. Beach days, no matter where, really wear us out. Luckily neither of us got sunburnt but we were still exhausted.

We got up and dressed for the 2nd formal night and made our way to the Main Dining Room. Unfortunately, since we moved our reservation we were not able to sit at our usual table. We were at the back and crammed in like cattle once again. However, the food and service were once again exceptional. This dinner featured prime rib and lobster and they were cooked to perfection. The service was top notch and we were able to meet the one of the head waiters from Romania who then became our waiter. We were in and out of the MDR in 1 hour and 8 minutes which, once again, is completely unheard of.

I love you Chris Davis. Thanks for another AMAZING cruise!

Formal Night #2... We are ready for the LOBSTER!

Head Chef Ramone Allen from Jamaica thanks the guests of the LOTS!

He also recognizes ALL of the chefs on board.
While there was no singing and dancing, this was incredible special and I appreciated all of the chefs coming out and even more so listening to the Head Chef talk about the Liberty of the Seas

We ate too much and were now in a food coma so we went back to the balcony to sit and talk. We sat and talked about life and our kids and so much more and before we knew it, it was past 10PM. We quickly grabbed our wine and made our way to Studio B for the "Quest" adult scavenger hunt. TIP- The "Quest" is an ADULT only show that has teams of adults hunting for all kinds of things such as a Cruise Compass, a zipper, and all other kinds of things. Check your Cruise Compass for day and time. Also, bring some of the above items. Be prepared to LAUGH!  Jeffrey, the Cruise Director, did a GREAT job with this and we had a BLAST! After the "Quest" was over we stayed around a little while in the club before heading back to our room for the night.

I really like how Jeffrey played this "Quest" game as he split the HUGE crowd into only 6 groups. He also had TEAM quests where EVERYONE had to participate. One of the "Quests" was the wobble. It was so much fun!

It was a GREAT and very memorable day spent at one our favorite and most visited ports but we were now headed home. It is always so sad when it's time for the last sea day!

Be sure to check back for the daily posts of our trip. Each day we will include more tips and tricks about the Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas.

Once again, thank you so much for following along!

Next up... Sea Day #3 and our last day on the Liberty of the Seas!
