The Curse Has Been Lifted
Cozumel, Mexico

Morning
We woke up around 8:30AM and we were already docked in Cozumel at the Punta
Lungosta Cruise Pier in Downtown Cozumel. We got dressed and ready for the day
and then went to eat breakfast at the Garden Café and sat in La Cucina. Today I was able to really
try out the food since I was over my sickness and the omelets were very good.

After breakfast we enjoyed the empty ship by spending the
morning in the hot tub and pool area. We spent the rest of the morning and the early afternoon
in the hot tubs and laying out near the pool decks, enjoying our Ultimate
Beverage Package.

Afternoon
We went and had lunch in the Garden Café around 1PM to check out the
lunchtime buffet. It was OK and better than Royal Caribbean’s Windjammer
buffet, but that is not saying much. They offered a variety of genres of food
but none were outstanding. In fact, the pizza was the best item on the buffet
in our opinion.
We went back to the room to shower before going on shore to
roam around the terminal and sending pics and videos to our kids via Wi-Fi. We
have been to this downtown pier before and knew some of the restaurants offered
free Wi-Fi (Senor Frogs, Hooters and others) if you ordered food. We ended up
at Hooters of all places but we really wanted to send our kids videos. Oh the
things you’ll do for free Wi-Fi!
I always snap a picture just in case!

We ended up ordering a few drinks and even got a Buy Two Get
One Free special on drinks and an order of mozzarella sticks. It’s funny how
you change as you get older. Even just 3 years ago we would have NEVER paid for drinks and food on land if you can get it for free on the ship but now in our
old age, we prefer convenience over financially smart!
These cheese-sticks were pretty good!

After we sent our videos and checked our emails we meandered
around the terminal before getting back on the ship. We had plans on stopping
at the Tax and Duty Free shops but unfortunately they were closed. We are going
back in June so we hope to get our duty free items then.
Once we got back on the ship we went to the room to enjoy a
nap before we set sail for our next destination. We both were on the back end
of a sickness and ended up sleeping over an hour, which was much needed and
deserved. We woke up feeling refreshed and 100%. The sickness curse had been lifted! We then went to the upper decks
to see if we could spot any pier runners. We saw an ambulance bring an older
lady onto the ship via stretcher but no pier runners. We never heard if the
woman was ok or not. Prayers for her and her family!

More of the downtown area. The lighthouse is about halfway between the Carnival Pier and the downtown (Punta Langosta) pier!

Everything is "easy going" in Cozumel.

Evening
We watched sail away from Deck 13 and then around 6PM we
went straight to the Indigo Dining Room for dinner. NCL offers “Freestyle
Cruising” which allows you to go to dinner anywhere you want wearing pretty
much anything you would like. TIP- The Summer Palace Dining Room (aft) and the Le Bistro specialty restaurants REQUIRE long pants after 5PM but pretty much everywhere else allows shorts and t-shirts, if that is your thing. This meant we could go from the pool deck to the MDR
table. This was a game changer for me because far too often I have to go back
to the room and freshen up and put on a dress and etc before dinner. That cuts
into our relaxation plans so this type of “freestyle” is so much more
appealing.

Dinner in the Indigo Dining Room was quick, efficient and
pleasant. In fact, we were in and out of the MDR within 1 hour and 15 minutes,
which is an all-time record for a cruise ship. The décor in this mid-ship
dining room was modern and fresh with pictures of American landmarks such as
the Golden Gate Bridge and The St. Louis Arch. The service was literally some
of the best we have ever had from the entire waiter team and the food was some
of the best MDR food we have had on any of the 4 cruise lines we have tried. In
addition, there was not singing and dancing like on Carnival. I have never had
anything against that but Chris has always hated it. My opinion may have
changed because this dinner was outstanding. Plus there was no 30 minute delay
between main course and dessert, which is where Carnival, Princess and Royal Caribbean have all failed in our opinion! It was a complete game changer for us and we
were pleasantly surprised! The curse of the MDR service has been lifted!
After dinner we went to the 80’s Revival Show in the Spinnaker
lounge. This was a trivia style game show that played a clip of an MTV 80s
music video and you had to guess the song title and artist. We have won an 80s
trivia before so we were ready but this was more of a “large group” thing with
no prizes or true winners at the end. Nonetheless, we had a great time!
After the 80s trivia we went to the main show in the Theater
for a “World Champion Juggler”. This guy was pretty good as a juggler but
talked WAY TOO MUCH. He had his moments of humor but overall I thought he was
pretty lame. Chris, on the other hand, thought he was hilarious.
It's showtime!

After the show we went back to the Spinnaker Lounge for the
80s Dance Party with the live band. The band was fabulous and the singers were
some of the best we have heard. And Fabio, the assistant Cruise Director, was so much fun! She really was the visible Cruise Director as Vincent was no where to be found. We spent the rest of the evening singing along
and dancing before heading back to the room after 1AM. It was another late
night but the next day was in Roatan and we didn’t get there until 10AM so we
had time to sleep in.
Haha... What a night!
Haha... What a night!
The day was filled with exciting activities and it seemed
the sickness curse had been lifted and we were ready to fully enjoy our cruise!
Next up... Coxen Hole, Roatan (Honduras)
God is good... ALL the time!
